With the retirement of Chief Criminal Deputy District Attorney Erik Levin, Douglas County District Attorney Mark B. Jackson announced the appointment of veteran prosecutor Chelsea Mazza as the new chief deputy district attorney for the Criminal Division of the District Attorney’s Office.
“I am pleased to announce that Chelsea Mazza is the new Chief Criminal Deputy District Attorney,” said Jackson. “Chelsea brings an impressive palette of skills to this important supervisory role. She is an incredible prosecutor and has proven leadership qualities with strong ties to our community.”
Mazza was born and raised in Douglas County. She obtained a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice from the University of Nevada in 2010, and her juris doctorate degree from Willamette University College of Law in 2014. Upon graduation from law school, Mazza clerked for Washoe County District Judge Connie J. Steinheimer.
Mazza started her career as a prosecutor in 2015 at the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office where she prosecuted primarily felony cases before returning to her home county in January 2019.
“For the past five and a half years, Chelsea has earned the respect of the deputies and investigators with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for her hard work, dedication to justice, and tenacious prosecutions of child sex crimes and other high level felony cases,” said Jackson. “Chelsea has also worked on some statewide issues and committees to help improve the law and in advising and assisting with data-driven policy recommendations to the Nevada Legislature. Chelsea is a zealous advocate for victims of crime, and especially children. I am proud of Chelsea and I am excited for her future in the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.”
