Genoa, Nev. — Douglas County commissioners approved new parking fees and rules for Warrior Way at Zephyr Cove in an effort to discourage tourists from parking free and blocking the road in order to access the beach.
Commissioners also approved a 14-percent fee increase for Douglas County Community Development, which just catches up to the Western Urban Consumer Price Index for 2022 and 2023.
As of this morning, 7,937 voters have cast their ballots in Douglas County, amounting to 18.4 percent of the active electorate. Of those 6,930 were either mailed or dropped off. Ballots may be dropped off at the Election Tent behind the Douglas County Courthouse.
The Clerk-Treasurer’s Web site reports 1,007 voted in person on Thursday. Today is the last day for early in-person voting at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. today.
The roving ballot box is back in Indian Hills 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at the Johnson Lane Fire Station 3-6 p.m. today if you want to drop of a mailed ballot.
Those discount tickets to the Carson Valley Days Carnival are now good through the weekend. The Carson Valley Art Association’s annual show in the CVIC Hall should be up and running today and will be open through Sunday.
Minden Town Board members recommended the design of a Chipotle between the carwash and the Subway off Highway 395. There are actually several new eateries in the works across the Valley. We’ll round them up once we get out from under Carson Valley Days and the elections.
Things are supposed to cool off a little bit over the weekend, but these heat domes are pretty resilient. Minden-Tahoe Airport topped out at 95 degrees at 2:15 p.m. Thursday. The heat advisory is back through 8 p.m. today.
Today’s forecast calls for a high temperature in Minden of 93 degrees. The wind will pick up out of the west at 10-15 mph this afternoon, gusting up to 30 mph tonight.
