Genoa, Nev. — A side by side caught fire and threatened to spread to the wildland northwest of Fish Springs around 5 p.m. Saturday. I don’t have a cause, but it is a reminder to carry a fire extinguisher or two when out recreating.


A kayaker reported overdue at 4:30 p.m. Sunday out of Round Hill Beach was found driving toward Carson City after Douglas Sheriff, Tahoe Douglas and South Lake Tahoe sent boats out looking for him for about an hour.


The Carson Valley Days Parade went smoothly this weekend and from reports I’ve received from the park, it didn’t seem like more than the usual issues with drunken partiers. We’ll wrap up all that in Wednesday’s edition.


The meet and greet with the two remaining Douglas school superintendent candidates is 4 p.m. today at the Douglas High School Media Room.


Workers are going to start digging up Highway 395 through Gardnerville today through almost the end of summer. If you can, patronize the businesses through there because they are going to be hurting.


The election tent behind the Douglas County Courthouse is open for residents to drop off the ballots they received in the mail. Besides that, the election staff is preparing for the big day when polls are open on Tuesday.


As of end of business on Friday, 8,769 voters had cast a ballot in the primary election, down from the 9,660 I reported the day before the Primary Election Day 2022. Clerk-Treasurer Amy Burgans said she is preparing for a big turnout on Tuesday.


The forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 90 degrees with the wind picking up out of the west at 5 mph this afternoon. We have another bout of mid-90s coming Tuesday and Wednesday before things cool down again.
