Genoa, Nev. — Minden resident Gary Jacobsen may well have delivered more editions of The Record-Courier to more people over the last decade than anyone in history. But with a cancer diagnosis in May, it’s unlikely he’ll be back on the route that covered about a tenth of our subscribers from Gardnerville down to Topaz.
We’ve been running ads for new carriers in the paper and online but haven’t had much luck. If you want to find out more, contact Circulation Director Martha Lopez at mlopez@nevadanewsgroup.com or 775-881-7343.
The R-C's Salute to Seniors is in today's edition, and includes students from Douglas, Whittell and ASPIRE high schools.
It was a busy Tuesday on the scanner, with what I believe was an RV fire 3:10 p.m. on Kimmerling, a couple of traffic accidents, including one involving a motorcyclist at Douglas and Gilman around 2 p.m., a vehicle into a field off Genoa Lane around 10 p.m.
I made it to the Main Street Gardnerville’s Highway 395 work meeting on Tuesday morning despite having to dodge the construction that was the main topic. The main takeaway is that construction may be done in early August.
I got the first text alert on the construction this morning listing Eddy, High School and Mill streets as closed with Gilman open again today. I haven't laid eyes on the project this morning, so no guarantees.
Douglas County Mosquito Abatement will be fogging 9 p.m. tonight around Carson Valley Golf Course and will be out at Sunridge and Winhaven on Thursday night. Visit dcmosquito.org for more information.
The 2024 USA Open Class National Championship ended Tuesday in a far tighter race than anything I’m seeing in the election results. Minden Soaring Club members Keith Essex and Jim Lee held the first and second place, separated by 76 points, if I’m reading the results at www.soaringspot.com correctly.
Minden-Tahoe Airport topped out at the forecast 95 degrees on Tuesday, and the forecast calls for another 95-degree day today. Try to stay out of the heat. The west wind will pick up this afternoon at 10-15 mph.
