Genoa, Nev. — East Fork firefighters responded to a structure fire on Gray Hills Road in Topaz Ranch Estates 3 p.m. Tuesday. Two outbuildings burned, but it sounded like the home was saved.

Brush clearing work continues in Genoa with the Tahoe Douglas Zephyr Crew lending a hand to East Fork. I’ve seen work under way along Jacks Valley Road and Muller Lane in addition to around Nevada’s oldest settlement.

Mill, High School, Eddy streets and Gilman and Douglas avenues are closed for the road construction on Highway 395 on this Juneteenth holiday.

If you’re going to the Just A Drop In Farmers Market at Heritage Park I would suggest using Waterloo Lane to Main Street to Mission Street and around behind to Gilman.

Local, state and federal offices are closed today for Juneteenth, along with banks and the Post Office.

The R-C office will be closed today but I’ll be in for a couple of hours on Thursday morning while it’s cool out. I have an event just before lunchtime that morning.

The official low in Minden was 34 degrees on Tuesday morning, just a degree warmer than the record coldest day on June 18, 2005. The average high temperature for the first half of the month was 88 degrees, up from 80.6 degrees.

A mild day is in the forecast with the high temperature near 82 degrees with the west wind 5-10 mph this afternoon. Brace for a return of the heat with the high climbing 5 degrees a day on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The forecast high of 97 on Saturday will be the warmest day of 2024.
