Genoa, Nev. — Any smoke we get today will likely be from the 20,000-acre Sites Fire burning northeast of Clear Lake in California. As of this morning the fire is only 15 percent contained, according to CalFire.

County commissioners are expected to canvass the primary election results today, putting that election to bed. I don’t expect any surprises on the final results presented today at the 10 a.m. meeting at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St.
The real contention is over a request by Zephyr Cove Resort for an events permit to conduct a beer garden over July Fourth where they expect 2,000 visitors. Residents are opposing the permit, citing last year’s trashing of Zephyr Shoals.
Besides the beer garden, alcohol will be prohibited on Zephyr Shoals this year under the Zephyr Cove ordinance banning it over the Fourth of July. An eight-member security team with a drone will be watching.
County commissioners will be tackling some personnel matters today, including contracts with the Sheriff’s Office associations, indigent defense attorneys and County Manager Jenifer Davidson’s performance review.
Thirty-year Minden resident and former Carson Valley Middle School librarian Martha Betcher was the only applicant for the Library Board of Trustees.
