Genoa, Nev. — Construction on Highway 395 as arrived at 1st Street in Minden. Night paving in the southbound lanes was supposed to start on Sunday, but I haven’t looked myself. I’ll check on that today.

A 2.5 magnitude earthquake 4:50 a.m. today just west of Walker may have awakened some folks down there this morning. It’s the second day an early morning temblor. A 2.1 hit just east of Coleville at 4:50 a.m. Saturday.

A power outage affected 51 Genoa residents for a couple of hours starting 11:20 a.m. Sunday. I don’t have a cause, but with the warm temperatures it shouldn’t be a surprise we’re having some power issues.

The Pony Express Re-ride is due in Nevada 6:45 a.m. today. It will take the relay riders at least two days to cross the Silver State with arrival in Carson around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and Stateline around five hours later. That puts the pony in Genoa around 3 p.m. Keep in mind that times are approximate as all get out.

Don Bently’s spirit was clearly present at the dedication of the first Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark in the Silver State, celebrating the 1967 creation of a means to determine if bearings were going to fail without actually touching the rotating machinery.

In my days as a Navy electrician, I would occasionally listen to motors by holding a screwdriver up to my ear, something included in the program. Trust me, using the non-contacting eddy current sensors is much, much better.

We’re seeing a slight cooling trend that could take us back down below 90 degrees by Thursday. Today’s high is forecast to hit 93 degrees with the zephyr picking up at 10-15 mph, gusting to 30 mph.
