Genoa, Nev. — A fire weather watch goes into effect 2-11 p.m. Wednesday for gusty winds and low humidity. It could very well be upgraded to the third red flag warning for the season by the end of today.


With a few Western Nevada wildland fires already, this season could be a bad one, East Fork Battalion Chief Larry Goss told members of the Local Emergency Planning Committee on Monday afternoon.


The purchase of $162,212 for books, materials and processing for the 2024-25 fiscal year goes before the Douglas County Library Board of Trustees 10 a.m. today at the Minden Branch. The branch is also up for a new interior paint job.


Residents of Nevada’s oldest town will see a .0062-cent tax rate increase to .6278 cents per $100 assessed evaluation. In addition to Genoa, tax rates will increase for Cave Rock, Kingsbury, Logan Creek and Zephyr Knolls general improvement districts over the next year.


Nevada Tax commissioners are scheduled to adopt the rates for next year this morning before county commissioners hear the item at 4 p.m. The rates have already been approved by the various boards, today’s meeting is just to adopt the resolution to levy them.


A collision 4:10 a.m. today at Muller Lane and Highway 395 snarled what traffic there was for around an hour this morning, according to the Pulse Point app. Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in Topaz Ranch Estates near Topaz Ranch Road at 6:42 p.m. Monday.


Nevada Division of Outdoor Recreation Administrator Denise Beronio is the guest speaker at the Good Governance Group meeting at the COD Casino noon today. There’s a $5 per person cover charge for the room.


There’s a chance we could see some showers or thunderstorms after 2 p.m. today, but otherwise we’re looking at mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 91 degrees. The west wind will pick up at 5-10 mph this afternoon, except around any thunderstorms that turn up.
