Genoa, Nev. — In addition to starting a new search for a school superintendent, Douglas County School Board trustees will discuss a $2.17 million remodel at Whittell High School and $1.1 million in improvements to Douglas High School’s stadium. The school board meets 4 p.m. today at Douglas High School.
Planning commissioners are scheduled to hear a planned development and three tentative subdivision maps for the Virginia Ranch project in southern Gardnerville. The project was recommended for approval by the Gardnerville Town Board.
Also on the planning commission agenda is a zoning map amendment for the new courthouse. Planning commissioners meet 1 p.m. today at the Douglas County Courthouse in Minden.
I saw a Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy towed a disabled pickup off Highway 395 just after lunchtime on Monday, while I heard someone that sounded a lot like Sheriff Dan Coverley giving a ride to a man who was reportedly lying in a parking lot. Maybe we should take heed from these acts of constructive kindness and spread it around.
I made a foray into Topaz Ranch Estates on Monday to check on the roads that prompted a petition to take over the district. They’re not good, but the question remains what to do about that when the county meets on Monday.
Highway 395 was down to one lane on the south end of Double Spring Flat on Monday for what appears to be preliminary road work. Meanwhile in downtown Gardnerville, workers were cutting a big trench across the highway that had traffic backed up a ways. I took Waterloo to Gilman on the way back.
Chain controls are in effect on Interstate 80 and highways 88 and 50 over the passes. It looks like Kingsbury got a dusting of snow on the traffic camera.
There might be a little rain before noon today, according to the forecast. Otherwise, the prediction is for mostly sunny skies and a high temperature near 52 degrees. Expect the wind out of the southwest at 20-25 mph, gusting to 40 mph this afternoon.
