Genoa, Nev. — Thursday saw races for Douglas County Board of Commissioners go from zero to three. Commissioner Danny Tarkanian filed to retain his seat and previous commission candidate. Nate Tolbert filed for Walt Nowosad’s seat. Topaz Ranch Estates trustee Mike Tanner filed in District 3.
Today is the final day of filing for office in Nevada. According to the Nevada Secretary of State’s website 80 Douglas County residents have filed for offices ranging from town board to Congress as of last night.
Nevada Emergency Management Chief Dave Fogerson was introduced during a hearing of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee in Washington D.C. on Thursday. Fogerson was a longtime deputy chief for East Fork Fire Protection District.

There were reports of a tree down over Highway 50 and Glenbrook around 2:30 p.m. Thursday due to the windstorm. That coincided with a 35 mph gust, according to the NV Energy gauge.
The high wind warning at Lake Tahoe is down to a lake wind advisory until 5 p.m. today with 35-45 mph gusts driving waves 2-4 feet high on the east shore. It’s still in effect on the West Slope of the Sierra.
The forecast calls for sunny skies and a high temperature around 53 degrees today with the wind out of the northeast at 10-15 mph before settling down tonight. It’s just going to get warmer over the next few days with highs in the mid 60s by Monday.
