Genoa, Nev. — County budgeters are forecasting the increase in property tax revenue will drop to around 5.07 percent and that state consolidated taxes will actually decrease by 1.01 percent. The tentative budget is using $735,824 from ending fund to balance, but that will be cleaned up for the final budget, according to County Manager Jenifer Davidson.

Tentative budget hearings are going to go all week long, with community development up at 3 p.m. today and community services wrapping up 1 p.m. Friday. We’re talking around 20 hours of meetings, but I always learn something new during the process.

I should have realized that with a new county manager and new chief financial officer, the process would be new, too. This is the second day in a row I’m correcting something from the previous morning report. I hope I’m not on a streak.

Highway 89 between the bridge over the West Fork and Diamond Valley Road will have one-way traffic 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday while CalTrans works on the guardrails.

The skies are pretty clear this morning but that’s going to change as the day progresses with a chance of rain hitting after 5 p.m. The high temperature is expected to hit 58 degrees, before southwest winds rise to 10-15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
