In a surprise move, the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association has overturned its original ruling to disqualify the Douglas High School girls track and field regional team title.
The Tigers were reinstated as Class 5A Northern Region team champions Monday afternoon.
The reversal in the ruling will also allow Douglas’ 4x100- and 4x200-meter relay teams to compete at the 5A state meet this coming weekend at Carson High.
Both relay teams have been reinstated as regional champions.
Tiger senior Bliss Moody has also been reinstated as 5A North long jump champion.
Originally, the Tigers were disqualified from the two relay events, long jump and the team title due to ineligible entries from an athlete entering five events.
Douglas appealed the decision once it was announced.
Douglas High athletic director John Glover said Monday he was pleased with the NIAA’s decision to reverse their original ruling.
“I’m really excited for our kids, parents and coaches that the NIAA did the right thing and awarded those points back to us, and in turn, the regional championship,” said Glover.
The Tiger girls officially finish the regional meet with 132.67 team points. Galena will be second with 124.
NIAA officials confirmed the move via email.
The Tiger girls team will be presented with its trophy Friday, May 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Carson High School, prior to the beginning of the state meet.
