It looks like Friday night was the only chance for decent aurora viewing in Western Nevada. A notice issued 6:30 p.m. by the Space Weather Prediction Center had a G3 warning expire 11 p.m. Sunday. The sun appears to still be sending stuff our way, so it could be back at some point.
I’ve asked whether an East Fork fire call around 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning at Johnson Lane and Highway 395 was related to the northern lights. It wouldn’t be the first time an odd glow has been called in as a possible fire.
The Scott Fraser Memorial Training Prop was dedicated on Saturday. Firefighters will use the structure at Station 14 to conduct training. I climbed two-thirds of the way up for a fairly good view of that part of town.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and there around 50 participants in a walk around Minden Park on Saturday morning. I’ll write that up for Wednesday’s edition.
Main Street Gardnerville conducted its Sweep the Town on Saturday in preparation for the first Wine Walk of the season on Thursday. I ended up giving a brief tour of the town to a geocacher here for the weekend.
There’s a slight chance we could see thunderstorms 2-8 p.m. tonight under increasingly cloudy skies with a forecast high today of 80 degrees and the wind out of the southwest at 5-10 mph, gusting to 20 mph.
