The Douglas High School diving group had already qualified three competitors out of Wednesday’s regional meet.
Over the past weekend, the Tigers had several more swimmers earn a spot in the final area competition of the spring.
For the Douglas boys, sophomore Matthew Sutton qualified for state in three events.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Sutton was third in 23.06 seconds before also taking third in the 100-yard freestyle (50.97). He will compete at state in both events.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Sutton, Matthew Yturbide, Baylen Rowlett and Timothy Gleason took second place as a unit in 1 minute, 50.09 seconds to qualify for state.
Rowlett earned a state spot as an individual, as well, putting together a third place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. Freshman Lucas Goss barely missed a spot in the same event, taking fifth (5:35.48).
As a team, Douglas wrapped up regionals in fifth place with 224 points. Reed was the boys champion with 345 points.
On the girls’ side, junior Gracie Goss just missed out on a state qualification after taking fifth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.55. She finished roughly two-tenths of a second off qualifying pace.
The Tigers’ girls 400-yard freestyle relay team — Caitlin Taylor, Carli Stevenson, Goss and Kiera Duffy — were sixth in 4:00.02.
Taylor took eighth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:04.85.
The Tigers girls team was seventh as a collective with 212 team points. Reno won the team title with 340 points.
