Genoa, Nev. — “So you want to see an electromagnetic storm?” Mother Nature said as she dusted off her thunderbolts. Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin said his lightning detector showed 69 strikes last night. A few spots in Carson Valley got hosed, but most of the Valley only got a little bit of rain.

I’ve contacted NV Energy about the power outage that affected 2,802 Douglas residents, though I’m betting it was the lightning.

Clerk-Treasurer Amy Burgans continues her election outreach today at the Good Governance Group meeting noon in the COD Casino in Minden. Remember to bring $5 for beverages.

Voters are starting to get their ballots in the mail. If you’re going to vote by mail, I suggest turning it around soon as you can. You can also drop ballots off at the courthouse or at any polling place after they open on May 25 and save the taxpayers some postage.

The second to the last portion of Clear Creek Tahoe above Alpine View is up for review before today’s Planning Commission and Thursday’s County Commissioner meetings with 31 units sought in the approval of a tentative subdivision map on the west side of the project. Planning commissioners meet at 1 p.m.

The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board is meeting 6 p.m. today to discuss the fees and charges manual. The board meets at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center in Gardnerville.

If it’s going to storm again today, that will happen after around 2 p.m. Forecasters are predicting most of the action will be along the Sierra crest in Alpine and Mono and then head west.

Otherwise, we’re looking at sunny and warm weather with the high temperature around 82 degrees and the wind out of the northwest winds 5-10 mph.
