DUI collision results in prison

A Gardnerville Ranchos man, who caused substantial bodily harm to both his passenger and another driver while driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, was sentenced Monday to 2-5 years in prison.

Gerald Thomas Patrick Elliot III, 32, was arrested Nov. 22, 2022, with a blood point alcohol level of .135 and a combination of THC after colliding will another vehicle.

According to court documents, Elliot was driving a green Toyota 4Runner west on Kimmerling Road in the eastbound lane that collided with a blue Audi A4. A responding deputy noticed unopened bottles of Fireball whiskey and an empty Coors Light on the passenger floorboard.

According to court documents, Elliot told the officer he drank two beers and two “shots.”

When the incident occurred, Elliot’s father was a passenger with him and suffered substantial bodily harm, including several spinal, rib and pelvic fractures, a left pneumothorax, and post-traumatic stress. The driver of the blue Audi also suffered numerous contusions and a possible fractured pelvis.

Elliot was given credit for two days time served.

• A woman with at least 20 years of drug use and prior charges in the last five years was sentenced Monday to a suspended 19-48 months in prison.

Lindsey Ann Rix was arrested Dec. 29, 2023, for possession of methamphetamine.

• A 61-year-old Reno man was ordered Tuesday to write a note every day telling his dead son what he did to make him proud for the next year.

Richard Glenn Gardner said his son’s death brought him to a place where he shoplifted $700 in items from the Target.

He was found guilty of burglary of a business and received a suspended 2-5-year prison sentence. Gardner was arrested on April 16, 2023, for loading up clothes and other things.

Gardner was convicted of grand larceny in Washoe County and served prison time in a case involving a stolen trailer.
