For the third season in a row, Tiger pitcher Talia Tretton was named the Class 5A North Player of the Year, continuing a long list of accolades earned by one of the Tiger greats.
Tretton hit. 480 at the plate this season with seven home runs, 14 doubles and 42 RBIs.
She was even more valuable in the circle, throwing nearly every inning for Douglas while recording a stunning 1.00 ERA in those 189.2 innings of work.
She finished the regular season with 347 strikeouts, which is the fifth-most in the nation.
Her head coach, John Glover, picked up Coach of the Year honors for the second time in the last three seasons. Douglas was perfect in league play this season (16-0) before rolling to the Class 5A North regional title.
FIRST-TEAM HONOREES
Earning first-team honors for their play this spring were senior Lilyann Lee and junior Annie Hill.
Lee, who was chosen for first team at designated player (DP), hit a team-high 11 home runs and drove in the team-lead 47 RBIs. She improved her batting average from .305 last season to .438 this spring.
Hill, who was a staple in the outfield for the Tigers, also dramatically increased her batting average this season, ending the spring with a .462 clip after hitting .349 last season.
Hill had 16 extra-base hits.
Both Lee and Hill were honorable mentions on the all-league teams last season.
SECOND TEAM AND HONORABLE MENTION
Douglas’ Zora Simpson had seven home runs this season and a .337 batting average, paving her way to a second-team selection. Simpson posted 27 RBIs for the Tigers, as well.
Carson’s Isabella Reyes and Jasmine Slater both picked up second-team honors for the Senators.
Reyes was one of the Senators’ most effective players at the dish, tallying three homers, seven doubles and 17 RBIs to go with her .512 batting average.
In the circle, Reyes tossed 122.1 innings and had 67 strikeouts.
Slater, a sophomore, was a second-team choice with a .258 batting average and six RBIs.
Douglas’ Haley Wilkinson and Peyton Simpson were both honorable mention choices for the Tigers.
Wilkinson, who appeared in just 13 games for Douglas due to injury, still put together four home runs and five doubles in 36 at-bats.
Meanwhile, Simpson had a solid season for the Tigers behind the plate. At bat, Simpson had a .353 batting average with two home runs, seven doubles and 16 RBIs.
Carson High softball had two additional honorable mention selections, as well.
Sophomore Cali Stagliano and junior Sofia Morrison were both recognized with postseason awards.
Stagliano hit .317 for the Senators this spring with a pair of home runs, seven doubles and 16 RBIs.
Morrison, who was Carson’s catcher for a majority of the season, had a team-high seven home runs to go with four doubles, two triples and 23 RBIs.
That was all while hitting for a .337 average.
