Douglas High senior Thomas Young was selected as the Class 5A North player of the year as the all-league teams were announced earlier this week.
Young led several statistical categories. Per MaxPreps, the Tiger was tops in batting average (.500), slugging percentage (.936), home runs (5), runs scored (52) and stolen bases (34).
Young also pitched 32 innings, recording a 3.06 ERA and 50 strikeouts.
The senior will head to San Diego State in the fall.
FIRST TEAM CHOICES
Douglas had two more selections on the first team.
Catcher Jeffrey Peters was honored after hitting .376 with two homers, 12 doubles and 31 RBIs.
Fellow junior Jackson Ovard was chosen at utility. Ovard played several positions while hitting .371 with nine doubles and 23 RBIs.
Young and Ovard were honorable mention selections last season.
SECOND TEAM AND HONORABLE MENTION
Selected to the second team were two Douglas seniors, pitcher Keegan Freeman and shortstop Owen Evans.
Freeman had a team-best 1.97 ERA in 39 innings with 39 strikeouts. He also hit four doubles and a triple.
Evans, who hit out of the two-spot for a majority of the season, scored 29 runs with three doubles, a triple, a home run and 26 RBIs.
Senior Aaron Tekansik rounded out the Tigers’ postseason honors with an honorable mention selection.
Tekansik, who is headed to Dawson Community College to play baseball, put together a 2.93 ERA in a team-high 43 innings pitched.
The senior struck out 34 hitters over his 12 appearances. He also hit a home run.
Carson’s two representatives this spring were Marcus Montes and Tanner Bohemier.
Montes, a senior, earned second team all-league honors after he posted a .338 batting average with four doubles, a triple and a home run. Montes was also credited with 15 runs scored and 12 RBIs.
Bohemier, also a senior, hit .303 for the Senators with two home runs, nine doubles, three triples and team-high 22 runs scored.
