As a university regent, I was elected in 2016 to finish Ron Knecht’s term. I was retained with no opposition in 2018 for a six-year term. In 2023 the Legislature changed the Regent’s terms so this year I’m running for re-election to my final four-year term.
Military spouse from 1973-1996 and we moved 16 times throughout the U.S. including two assignments in Germany.

Briefly describe the core duties of the position you are running for.
The board of regents is enshrined in the Nevada constitution as an elected body. We are delegated exclusive control and administration of the system and are responsible for setting policy and budgets and for the hiring and firing of the chancellor and presidents of the eight institutions within the system.
A brief statement about your platform.
As a regent on the Nevada System of Higher Education, my top priority is to ensure equitable access to education for all students. I am committed to closing the achievement gap by implementing targeted support programs for underrepresented and disadvantaged students. By providing resources such as tutoring, mentorship (Nevada Promise), financial aid and co-requisite classes, we can level the playing field and empower all students to succeed. Additionally, I believe in the importance of increasing our graduation rates across our teaching institutions. By investing in academic advising, career counseling and professional development opportunities, we can help students stay on track and graduate on time. I also support initiatives that promote student engagement such as internships, research opportunities and community service projects to enhance the overall college experience and prepare students for success in the workforce for a “New Nevada.” By working together with a fair and equitable funding formula, every student can thrive and reach their full potential.
What makes you the most qualified candidate for this position?
Experience matters!
I’m currently serving in my eighth year, and I have the longest tenure of the current 13 regents. I’ve served as chair pro tempore and vice chair of the board. I’ve been either a member, vice-chair or chair of all regent committees: ARSA – Academic, Research & Student Affairs; BFF - Business, Finance and Facilities; Audit, Compliance and Title IX; Community College/Workforce; Cultural Diversity/IDEA - Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access; Health Science Systems, Security and Athletics. I have been a member of nine presidential search committees and in 2020 I chaired the chancellor search committee. I currently serve on the ad hoc Committee on Higher Education Funding. Since my election in 2016, I’ve attended all Association of Community College Trustee (ACCT) Leadership Congresses and all but one legislative summit. Since ACCTs inception in 1969, I’m the first Nevadan elected to their board of directors. Last year I was elected as the secretary-treasurer and this year I serve as the elected vice-chair.
As a first-generation college student myself, I love knowing that I am helping to change lives in the same way that my life was forever changed. District 9 deserves continued leadership which I provide, and I ask for your vote on June 11th or during early voting which begins on May 25.

The current incumbent, Carol Del Carlo, voted for vaccine mandates for all university employees in September 2021, see https://lasvegassun.com/news/2021/oct/03/with-vaccine-mandate-nevadas-higher-ed-leaders-mak/.
In contrast, faculty and students can rest assured that I would have voted against this mandate and will oppose similar mandates if they arise in the future.
An issue that is important to my campaign is conducting fair elections. We encourage voters to report suspected fraud to both my campaign and the appropriate authorities. Be sure to enclose as much information as possible including pictures, times, locations, and a brief description. Watchdog groups are sure to challenge the results in court, so your input can have a big impact.
