Last weekend, I was out of town and missed both the Heritage Park Gardens’ annual Plant Faire and the UNR Extension Native Plant Sale at the River Fork Ranch in Genoa. Fortunately, another local plant-purchasing opportunity takes place this weekend and next with the Carson Valley FFA sale at the Douglas High School Greenhouse, 1670 Hwy 88 in Minden.
A selection of plants cultivated by Agricultural Science students at DHS will be available. The sale is scheduled from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on May 25 and 26 and June 1 and 2, and payment must be made by check or cash.
As a Career and Technical Student Organization, FFA supports student development in leadership and career readiness skills and helps foster personal growth. This annual sale helps sustain the DHS agricultural program and is completely planned, organized, and run by students.
Carson Valley FFA was chartered into the DHS Agriculture program back in 1929, making it the longest continuous running FFA chapter in the state of Nevada.
Questions about the sale can be directed to rrieman@dcsd.k12.nv.us or 775-782-5136.
