The Douglas County Public Library is inviting everyone to participate in the 2024 Summer Reading Program.
Adventure Begins at your Library is this year’s theme with reading and activity challenges for all ages and reading levels. The program runs from June 10 through July 31 at the Minden and Zephyr Cove branches. Children and teens who participate will earn prizes while they maintain and build their reading skills during summer break. Set up an account on the library’s Beanstack webpage at douglascountynv.beanstack.org to log reading, earn prizes, and enter drawings on your Beanstack account.
Gabe Kerschner will talk about a variety of wild and exotic animals from the Conservation Ambassadors at the Conservation Ambassadors Wildlife Show on June 26. Times are 2-3 p.m. at Kahle Community Center and from 4-5 p.m. at the CVIC Hall in Minden.
On July 31 the Northern Nevada Scottish Highland Dancers show will be 2-3 p.m. from at the Kahle Community Center and 4-5 p.m. at the CVIC Hall in Minden. This event is a family-friendly way to begin exploring Celtic culture, as presented in music performance and dance. Local musician Doyle Stewart will present songs he learned playing in Irish bands and from personal research. Cullen Mitchell’s Dance Studio will present the Scottish Highland Dancers.
All of these family-friendly events are free. The Summer Reading Program events are sponsored in part by the Friends of the Douglas County Public Library and the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. The Summer Reading Program was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records.
