Genoa, Nev. — Flags are at half-staff for U.S. District Court Judge Larry Hicks, who was hit by a car while walking near the federal courthouse in Reno on Wednesday.


Today is the last day to sign children up for the Kids Fishing Derby this weekend. Registration ends 4 p.m. with free tickets at AJ’s Stoves, Accolade’s Trophies while supplies last. No walk-ins will be permitted on Saturday or Sunday. It sounds like it’s going to be a big turnout.


The BackCountry Festival starts today and continues through Sunday at the Corley Ranch. Carson Valley’s own Jakota Wass is among the performers. Visit www.backcountryfest.com for more information.


I would anticipate some congestion south of Riverview in the mornings and evenings over the weekend as people arrive and depart from the concert.

The Last Friday Genoa Wine Walk is 5-8 p.m. today in Nevada’s Oldest Settlement.


The Douglas High School Agriculture Class and Carson Valley FFA are wrapping up their plant sale this weekend. The sale opens 9 a.m. and closes 3 p.m. both days.


We’re looking at high temperatures in the 90s in time for Carson Valley Days next week. Until then, the forecast calls for low 80s through the weekend with some breezy conditions on Saturday. Today the wind will be out of the west at 5-10 mph in the afternoon.
