A free trail safety workshop for bicyclists and horseback riders is Wednesday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

Designed to familiarize mountain bikers with horses, the workshop is hosted by the Carson Valley Trails Association and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse as part of the Slow and Say Hello safety campaign.

“All ages are welcome to come learn how and why horses may react to mountain bikes, including safe techniques for approaching and passing horseback riders and hikers on trails,” organizers said. “Participants will hear CVTA and DCMP members describe and demonstrate various horse behaviors — and if you bring your mountain bike, we may ask you to help us out. There will also be opportunities to touch and possibly ride a horse.”

This event is free and open to all mountain bikers, hikers, and others interested in trail safety. Please wear good shoes (no sandals) and bring your helmet if you will ride a bike or a horse at the event.
