Genoa, Nev. — On the last day of early in-person voting, Douglas turnout is around 8 percent behind where it was in 2020. At this point four years ago, 25,342 residents had already cast a ballot compared to 24,456 this year.


Even so, at 58.8 percent Douglas’ early turnout is running near the top for the Silver State. As of end of business on Thursday, only Nye County was higher with 59.2 percent.


Today is the final day for the roving ballot box, which will be in Indian Hills 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and in Johnson Lane 3-6 p.m. You can also drop off ballots 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Minden Courthouse or the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.


The Highway to Heaven will be busy on Saturday as the St. Gall and Carson Valley United Methodist churches conduct their annual holiday craft fairs. St. Gall opens at 7 a.m., the Methodists start up at 9 a.m.


The 3rd annual Día de Los Muertos festival is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Park in Gardnerville. Right around the corner, East Fork firefighters will attend Family Day 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center.


A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Sierra Nevada above 5,000 feet starting 5 p.m. today through 11 a.m. Saturday with 2 inches of snow forecast for below 7,000 feet and 2-6 inches above that.


October was a pretty dismal first month of the water year with only .03 inches of precipitation in Minden, a fraction of the .61-inch average but slightly better than the goose egg in October 2020.


According to the forecast, rain could turn up around 8 p.m. mixing with snow early Saturday morning. Otherwise, partly sunny skies with a high temperature near 60 degrees, with the wind out of the southeast at 5-15 mph shifting west this afternoon.
