Candidates backed by the We Deserve a Better Board committee were in the lead in election results released on Tuesday night.
District 3 candidate Erinn Miller was 5,702 votes ahead of School Board Trustee Doug Englekirk, while District 5 candidate Melinda Gneiting was 4,350 votes ahead of Antoinette Casselberry.
While those totals will change, neither race appears close enough for them to switch places.
County Commissioner Danny Tarkanian easily defeated opponents Jason Gibson and Brian Dempsey. Though Gibson was disqualified from the ballot, he still received 6,310 votes, while nonpartisan Dempsey had 4,316. Even if Gibson had been successfully removed from the ballot, combined the two candidates only received 54 percent of Tarkanian’s 19,364 total.
With Douglas County’s significant Republican majority, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Donald Trump would win the county by a 2-1 margin in preliminary results. Senate candidate Sam Brown had nearly 10,000 votes over Sen. Jacky Rosen. With thousands of ballots across the state left to count, that race is too close to call.
Rep. Mark Amodei appears to be on the path to victory over nonpartisan Greg Kidd by a 2-1 margin. Douglas also came in overwhelmingly in favor of Assembly 39 incumbent Ken Gray over Democrat Erich Obermayr.
Down ballot Teresa Duffy, Allen Biaggi and Sharon Des Jardins were the top three for the East Fork Swimming Pool District.
Gardnerville Ranchos resident Dave Nelson and incumbent James Degraffenried are leading in the race for the improvement district board.
In Indian Hills, Russ Siegman and Kathryn Ross were in the lead for that district. Topaz Ranch Estates residents Sharon Becker and Jeffrey Burgess will serve on that district board if preliminary results stand.
Mimi Moss and Steve Thaler were the leaders for the Minden Town Board.
In the justice of the peace races, Laurie Trotter had a big lead over challenger Jeff Schemenauer, while Tahoe Township Justice of the Peace Mike Johnson was ahead of Richard Gardner.
