Two local-area service organizations are working together to collect, sort, and distribute needed items for a winter coat drive.
Carson Valley Sertoma Club has hosted an annual coat drive since 2017, and the event has expanded significantly every year. The 2023-24 effort distributed more than 9,700 warm items to 25 agencies, organizations, and clubs that provide assistance to those in need.
The community continues to step up with donations of new and gently used and cleaned coats, sweaters, gloves, scarves, hats, and blankets, along with new socks.
This year, the Friends In Service Helping (FISH) Ranchos Family Service Center is supporting CVSC by providing space to store and sort all the donated items prior to distribution.
The 2024-25 coat drive is active now through January 31. Look for the signature blue donation barrels at the following Douglas County locations: ABE Printing and Copy Center, Anytime Fitness, Brown Bear Designs, C.O.D. Casino, Custom Framing & Design LLC, Daggett Creek Kennels, Double J Automotive, Douglas County Community & Senior Center, Douglas County Library in Minden, DST Coffee, The Grill Next Door, Round Table Pizza, St. Gall Catholic Church, Tractor Supply Co., Velvet Touch Salon, the UPS Store.
