An officer-involved shooting early Friday morning in the Gardnerville Ranchos is being examined by Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada State Police investigators.

On Thursday, deputies responded to the 1200 block of Pit Road for a report of a domestic assault involving a firearm.

According to the call, a man named John Brown allegedly assaulted a woman with a handgun and then ran from the scene. The woman said Brown was trying to steal a vehicle from someone on Pit Road.

A second person was with Brown but they were unsuccessful in taking the vehicle and they both ran toward Tillman Lane.

“Deputies continued searching the area for both suspects, utilizing drones and K-9s,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.

At 1:52 a.m. on Nov. 8, 2024, deputies found Brown sitting in a vehicle on Short Court.

“Upon approaching the vehicle, deputies observed an apparent handgun on Brown’s lap,” the Sheriff’s Office reported. “Deputies ordered Brown to exit the vehicle. At that point, it is reported that Brown pointed the gun at deputies, prompting them to open fire, and Brown was struck multiple times. One deputy sustained an injury to his hand and was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center for treatment.”

The other person with Brown was a 16-year-old male who was arrested on charges of robbery and booked into the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center.

All deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending a review by the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
