On Nov. 7, the Douglas County Genealogy Group held its 20th anniversary celebration meeting at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.
Nearly 30 members, guests and charter members attended the gathering.
The group was formed in November 2004 by a group of genealogy enthusiasts, with the primary purpose of creating a space for people to come together to research, learn, and share discoveries concerning the building of one’s family tree.
Charter members and Douglas County residents Doris Bennett and Nancee Goldwater were in attendance, and both spoke about the beginnings of the group.
After a slideshow history of the group, everyone was given a chance to speak about their experiences. An Ancestor Game also took place, prizes were awarded, and an anniversary cake was served to all attendees. One of the most significant aspects of the group is the fact that there are no dues, never have there been any dues, and the group has remained together for 20 years just for the love of genealogy and the preservation of family history.
The group’s annual Holiday Potluck luncheon takes place noon Dec. 5 at Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville. All are welcome to attend. Email DCGG.NV@gmail.com to confirm.
