Kiwanis Club of Carson Valley hosts their annual family friendly Turkey Bingo Nov. 23 at the CVIC Hall, 1604 Esmeralda Avenue in Minden. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. with bingo sessions scheduled at noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Paper bingo cards are 2 for $1, and daubers can be purchased for $1 each. There’s no limit to the number of games a person can play at one time. Games last until all the turkeys are awarded, and each bingo session ends with a special Blackout game that awards a grand prize.

Raffle tickets will be sold during all sessions for a chance to win prizes donated by community businesses and Kiwanis members. Hot dogs, chips, soft drinks, and water will be available for purchase, and players can enjoy complimentary popcorn and coffee.

Students from the Kiwanis-sponsored Douglas High School Key Club and members of the Kiwanis Aktion Club of Carson Valley will be on hand to support the day’s events.

Kiwanis is a worldwide service organization that welcomes those who want personal involvement in the leadership and improvement of their communities. Kiwanis maintains a primary focus on local youth, and the club conducts fundraisers throughout the year to support their scholarship fund and other initiatives that benefit the well-being of local children and families.

Autumn Book Sale

The Friends of the Douglas County Public Library host the final book sale of 2024 Nov. 15-16 in the Minden Library meeting room.

The Friends-only preview sale takes place Friday from noon-3 p.m. Anyone can join the Friends on or before preview day and enjoy a 10 percent discount on all purchases. The public sale opens on Friday from 3-5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Items drop to half price on Saturday during the final hour of the sale.

Proceeds from the sale help fund the Friends of the DCPL programs and projects. These include summer reading, Game On, seasonal story time, Second Wednesday Book Group, Saturday movies, and more.

Donations of gently used books or media to the quarterly book sales are appreciated and accepted at the Minden Library during regular library hours. Large donations are accepted on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. only.

Young at Heart seeks holiday donations

The Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club is collecting donations to help supply their annual holiday gift bags for homebound seniors.

Through Nov. 30, donated items may be dropped off at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville. Donations are accepted Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on the senior side and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on the recreation side.

Requested items are body and cleaning wipes, combs and hairbrushes, dental floss, deodorant, hand creams and lotions, Kleenex, lip balm, shampoo and conditioner, soap, and toothbrushes and toothpaste. Activity books and pens, blankets, calendars, and playing cards are also welcome. Items should be new condition. 

Candles, lighters, and glass items cannot be accepted.

To make a monetary contribution, bring cash or a check made out to Young at Heart.
