Most of Douglas County’s newly elected officials didn’t appear on a ballot.

Because they were unopposed, candidates for a score of county town board and district seats didn’t require an election.

January will see a homecoming of sorts for one new Gardnerville Town Board member. Barbara Smallwood served on the board until 1992 when she won a term on the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. Youth sports coach Ray “Rocky” Walling will also join the town board in January. They replace Lloyd Higuerra and Mary Wenner who termed out after three terms on the board.

Genoa Town Board Chairman Gordon Pasley will be joined by resident Mark Keith. Keith will replace board member Steve Shively.

Longtime volunteer firefighter and former Douglas County Planning Commissioner Nate Leising will replace East Fork Fire Protection District trustee Jacques Etchegoyhen. John Bellona and Mike Sommers will continue in their seats on the board.

Douglas County Mosquito Abatement District incumbent board members Don Callahan, Michele Curtis and Steve Wilcox will return to the board.

Michele Wagner and Daniel Griffith will take seats on the Minden-Gardnerville Sanitation District, taking over for Ray Wilson and Barbara Smallwood.

Tahoe residents Lloyd Bretthauer, Hayden Fulstone and John Peel will take seats on the Tahoe-Douglas District, which operates the sanitation plant at Lake Tahoe.

Five residents each filed for the Elk Point Sanitation District and the Skyland General Improvement District without triggering a a race.

Elk Point members are Doreen Andracchi, Robert Felton, Kylie Gerken, Anne Harry and Bradley Oneto. At Skyland, Nancy Beaulieu, Dana Englekirk, Karl Ney, Janine Nyre and Scott Sullivan will take their seats in January.

Neither the Sierra Estates nor the Zephyr Knolls general improvement districts saw a single filing this election cycle.

A swearing-in ceremony will likely be scheduled for January.
