Douglas County Chief of Staff Melissa Elges has resigned to take a position at Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center as director of foundation development and community for Carson Tahoe Health.
“I am so excited for Melissa and this wonderful opportunity she has been given to shine in this new role,” Davidson said. “She is a truly talented communications professional, and I have no doubt she will have a tremendous positive impact as a member of the Carson Tahoe Health team. Although she will be sorely missed here, I know this work is near and dear to heart.”
Elges has worked for Douglas since 2013 when she was hired as the county’s first community relations coordinator from Susanville, Calif., where she was a public relations specialist and assistant editor of a Susanville website.
“The … past years with Douglas County have been extraordinary, and what has made them truly unforgettable is everything we’ve achieved together,” she said. “It’s been an honor to collaborate with such incredible people and contribute to work that makes a real difference in our community. This county is home to some of the most dedicated individuals I’ve ever met—people who deeply care about serving others.”
Elges, who is married to Douglas County Undersheriff Ron Elges, said her departure from the county won’t mean she’ll be departing Carson Valley.
“This isn’t goodbye,” she said. “As I step into this new role supporting regional efforts to deliver quality healthcare, I carry all of you with me. As a nonprofit health system, Carson Tahoe Health reinvests all earnings into transforming and innovating systems, technologies, treatment, and patient care to our communities and beyond.
A key project Elges anticipates is fundraising for Carson Tahoe’s Healing Our Kids Crusade.
"I’ll be reaching out for your help as we work to collaborate, create awareness, and raise funds for Carson Tahoe’s Healing Our Kids Crusade. Mental and behavioral health are in crisis—not just in Douglas County, but across our region and great state. It will be a collective approach between the private, public and nonprofit sectors.”
Carson Tahoe Health Community and Patient Experience Administrator Kitty McKay said they are thrilled to have Elges.
“While we had interest from extraordinary candidates from across the nation, we are thrilled to have Melissa’s expertise and heart for service helping us enhance the health and well-being of our community,” she said.
