Great information at job fair

Editor:

Talk about a well-organized, very informative, highly friendly, collaborative activity at our Douglas County Community & Senior Center, then Sept. 26 took the blue ribbon and hit all the buttons. Table booths lined up and down presented a wealth of material and candy treats to boot. In addition, there was free soft-serve ice cream along with Nik n’ Willie’s Pizza slices and soda.

An abundance of information from volunteer activities throughout the county to hiring possibilities for people interested in employment opportunities were available with chances to talk personally with representatives. Even Alpine County was represented and seeking substitute teachers.

Our Douglas County Historical Society – represented by Curator Brenda Cullen – addressed the numerous activities supported by our Gardnerville and Genoa museums while the East Fork Fire group encouraged community members to become an East Fork Volunteer and reminded Fair visitors, “You are an integral part of our community’s protection.”

Fond of doggies and kitties? Douglas Animal Welfare Group – better known as DAWG - spoke to people pausing at their table about the importance of volunteering and making “a difference in the lives of Douglas County animals.”

Prefer horses? Kids and Horses encourages people to get involved by volunteering and working in a therapeutic capacity. The Porch Movement talked with visitors stopping by their booth about reaching out to others so they feel part of the community. Jessica Imelli of Volante of Carson Valley explained their senior living program and nearby, our Douglas County Sheriff’s Office introduced Fair visitors to their Good Neighbor Program.

Eagle Valley Children’s Home – serving our community since 1946 – presented a well-defined introduction of the organization, and Thursday’s representatives explained that their programs provide the “highest quality of service to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.” There was also a wonderful, colorful table with a wealth of information about Douglas County’s Girl Scouts’ activities.

A closing clincher to a tremendously well organized and appreciated Sept. 26’s Job Fair & Volunteer Expo was at the display Good Jobs Northern Nevada – “Goodbye, job. Hello, career!” Thank you to all the organizations and people who presented such inpiring displays filled with valuable information in our beloved Carson Valley.

Glad I was surprised

Editor:

I’m glad I was taken by surprise. I’m glad I didn’t see all the ugliness. I’m glad I wasn’t expecting this hatefulness to be so widespread. I’m glad I didn’t notice the deeply ingrained misogyny. I’m so glad that what I did see…was you.

Thank you for making MY world beautiful. Thank you for shielding me from all this. Thank you for your tenderness. Thank you for your bright energy. For your manners and decency. Thank you for taking me in, for taking care of me and my family. Thank you for your vote.

Please don’t let your light dim. I’m trying to keep mine shining too…for you. We can thrive here. In this little soft corner of ours. We don’t have to let the harshness in.

I’m just going to keep looking at you.

With love and deep gratitude,

Kendra

I’ve started a support group for liberal mamas in the area. If you need some community right now, please find us on Facebook: Carson Area Liberal Mamas. See you there.

Mrs. Biden should have intervened

Editor:

The Democrats can moan about the male black voter, the male latino voter, running a poor candidate, etc., but the loss of the White House (and the down ticket ballots) can be laid at the feet of one person: Jill Biden. Joe Biden’s mental decline (which became most obvious during the presidential debate) did not happen overnight. Jill Biden had to be aware of it. Joe Biden indicated during his 2020 election campaign that he would be “a one-term president.”

lf Jill Biden had forced Joe to hold to that, and her awareness of his mental decline, he would have not declared for re-election. That would have opened up a run for the nomination back in January and the Democrats may have been able to present a candidate that could have beat Donald Trump. Joe Biden declared he was ending this campaign “for the good of the country.” Really. Hard to give up the power and status once you have it. Thank you Jill Biden.
