Genoa, Nev. — A public safety outage is in effect for 604 Liberty Utility customers in Woodfords, Markleeville and Hope Valley starting 4:30 a.m. today and expected to last until Thursday morning. That outage could expand to the company’s customers in Topaz, Walker and Coleville later this morning.

NVenergy.com reports power was turned off for 42 customers along Jacks Valley Road, who are among more than 15,067 customers without power starting around 5 a.m. today. Most of them live in Washoe County.

The wind gauge at Alpine View recorded a 58 mph wind gust at 4:50 a.m., which was sufficient for the power company to hit the switch. Sustained wind speeds around 30-35 mph have been blasting through there. Sheridan recorded a 54 mph gust at 5 a.m.

With a red flag warning and a wind advisory 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, there’s a possibility of power outages due to the wind. I literally cleared the deck last night of stuff I’d like to keep from blowing into the Pine Nuts.

At least one person was transported for treatment in a head-on collision 6 p.m.. Tuesday between what was reported to be two Toyota 4-Runners at Zephyr Cove near the lodge. A medical condition might be responsible for a wrong-way vehicle at Topsy and 395 around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday. No sign of a collision.

There were a couple of fire calls for burns on Tuesday morning, including Double Spring at around 8:15 a.m. and another in Fish Springs around 11:20 a.m. Definitely keep an eye out for smoke today.

So given all that, what’s the weather going to be like? Blustery with a chance of rain after 1 p.m. today. The snow level will climb to 7,100 feet, but that won’t help the evening commute over Kingsbury which tops out at 7,343 feet at Daggett Summit. Minden is already at 50 degrees, only 4 degrees short of the forecast high temperature.
