Nothing makes a barbecue like meat and beer, and that’s a combination that Great Basin Brewing is touting in what it’s referring to as a closed-loop food system with Park Ranch Holdings.

Great Basin opened in August, while Park opened its meat processing facility off Buckeye Road in December.

"We are really moving the needle with our closed-loop system. Feeding the animals spent grain takes work but work that is worth it,” Great Basin owner Mark Estee said. “Building the Park Ranch Meats facility took effort, capital, and determination, and David Park got it done. Now, it is up to us to deliver these delicious products to Great Basin and all our Local Food Group restaurants. Now it is up to you, our customers, to make the right choices when spending time and money locally, knowing where your food comes from."

This grain, a byproduct of their beer brewing process, provides a nutritious feed for cattle, which are later processed at Park Ranch’s on-property facility.

Park Ranch has been serving Carson Valley since it was founded in 1861.
