Retiring East Fork Chief Tod Carlini will be the grand marshal Dec. 7 at this year’s Parade of Lights.
The parade with the theme Santa's Holiday Express will light up Highway 395, beginning at Eddy Street at 5 p.m. and ending at Minden Park.
The Parade of Lights is the culmination of celebrations welcoming the Christmas season to Carson Valley. The Town of Gardnerville will host its Christmas Kickoff in Heritage Park with fireworks on Dec. 5. Genoa and Minden
The parade will close the highway at 4:30 p.m. between Waterloo Lane and Sixth Street, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
The parade lines up at Heritage Park and travels over to Eddy Street before turning onto Main Street. After traveling down Highway 395 it turns onto Esmeralda Avenue and goes around Minden Park.
“Please remember that Main Street will be closed to traffic from Waterloo Lane to 6th Street, from 4:30-7 p.m.,” Sheriff’s officials said. “Detours around the parade route will be available and residents are asked to plan appropriately for travel. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue along with Citizen’s Patrol will be conducting traffic control.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Nevada Highway Patrol will both have a presence at the parade and activities following.

“Be courteous and aware of traffic controllers, flaggers and Sheriff’s Office volunteers,” officials asked.
