Indian Hills resident Annie Weber shares her faith journey and a better understanding of the Bible in her new book, “Astounding Truths,” with a book signing during Small Business Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 30 at Cottonwood Creek Gifts in Minden.

“Astounding Truths of the Bible: A bite-sized approach to understanding the world’s bestselling book,”  provides an insight into the bible through Weber’s unique lens, one she hoped she had while discovering her own faith journey.

“When you write a book, you write to a person, an audience you want to reach,” said Weber. “So, I was writing to inform myself. It was the tool I would have needed to go a little bit deeper.”

As a newlywed, her husband freshly home from Afghanistan, a new mother, and a full-time graduate student, Weber indulged herself in studying the bible during her baby’s nap schedule, and soon recognized the value in knowing the Word.

“In my own experience, I was attending church every week, but I didn’t know the Bible very well,” she said. “I knew the traditions of the Church, but didn’t have a full grasp.”

Through her studies, as she writes in her preface, “I began to know God in a personal way, my awakening was intense. I could not believe that the Bible provided so much incredible instruction for life and God’s character was so aptly described through words of Scripture.”

“Astounding Truths” is divided into four sections; The Character of God, God’s Desire for His People, Curious Parts of the Bible and God Equips His People. Each sections contain 25 short 600-700 word chapters Weber calls “daily readings.”

Opening with personalization, silly anecdotes, and her own experiences, Weber connects life events and its relation to the Bible.

“For example, Paul talks about having itchy ears, why does he use that phrase,” she said. “He’s telling the people at Ephesus, ‘you’re following false teachers,’ I explain stories like that.”

Weber said her book explains how God uses the Bible’s stories to teach and how its relevance is as important today as it was then.

“It’s what he wants us to learn,” she said.

Through the book’s humorous and gentle approach, Weber hopes “Astounding Truths” helps those who have never opened the Bible to better understand it and to deepen the perception for those who have, without compromising the seriousness of the Bible.

“My goal is to handle God’s word rightly,” she said. “I don’t want to be a false teacher or put people on a false path.”

Written while living in Guam, Weber said “Astounding Truths” is not an academic book, but instead highlights nearly all aspects of her life including; growing up in Michigan, the Great Lakes, her wedding at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, and becoming a mother of four and a licensed foster mom, providing the experiences of her journey and connections she needed to write “Astounding Truths.”

“I didn’t go to Bible college and I don’t have a doctor of divinity degree,” she said. “It’s a starting block, but the ultimate goal is for someone to put their faith in Christ, like it was with my journey.”
