Genoa, Nev. — The only routes with chain controls over our section of the Sierra this morning are Highway 88 over Carson Pass and Highway 89 between Pickett’s Junction and Meyers for what is reportedly one of the busiest travel days of the year.

For a little bit there, it appeared that the Vacation Home Rental Advisory Board might be meeting today, but it isn’t. It appears the next scheduled meeting is Jan. 22.

The deadline to apply for Douglas County’s volunteer advisory boards is 5 p.m. Dec. 6, but it might be a good idea to check the menu at www.douglascountynv.gov/government/county_boards_and_commissions early since the county’s going to be closed Thursday and Friday.

Both branches of the Douglas County Public Library are closing at 2 p.m. today and are going to stay that way Thursday and Friday. The Minden Branch reopens on Saturday and the Zephyr Cove Branch will be open on Tuesday.

The R-C will be among those outfits closing early today in preparation for the holiday. If you need something, drop me a line

The plume from the first atmospheric river of the season (and hopefully not the last) ended up hitting well south of Carson Valley, with Mammoth Mountain reporting 23 inches, while Heavenly got just 3 inches, the National Weather Service reported on Tuesday morning.

Snow telemetry confirms that story with Carson Pass adding 4 inches of snow to hit 2 feet over the weekend, while Ebbetts Pass saw a foot of new snow, hitting 30 inches on Monday morning.

The forecast for today is for sunny skies and a high near 42 degrees, with wind out of the south at 5 mph shifting north. It’s expected to warm up some by this weekend.
