A building permit is in progress to convert the former Sonic to a Wienerschnitzel, according to Douglas County records.
An application to install new kitchen equipment was submitted to the county on Wednesday by the property owner.
The project is just down the street where work is underway on a Chipotle, which is across the highway from the Big Chicken that opened Monday at 913 Santa Anita Ave., Minden.
Led by Carson City restauranteur Damon Kreizenbeck, the restaurant is located near the intersection of highways 395 and 88.
“My family and I were incredibly grateful for the outpouring of enthusiasm for our last opening in Carson City. After that, we were beyond eager to bring Big Chicken to more Northern Nevadans,” said Kreizenbeck. “Our family is committed to delivering not just delicious food, but memorable experiences that bring BIG Smiles to our guests’ faces. We can’t wait to welcome the community in and share all the fun and flavors Big Chicken has to offer with Minden.”
The Kreizenbeck family is deeply involved in the business, with his wife, daughters, and father-in-law all playing active roles in daily operations.
“The championship mindset and passion for hospitality that Damon and his family bring to their Big Chicken restaurants is what makes the difference between a simple meal and a truly special chicken sandwich,” said Big Chicken CEO Josh Halpern. “It’s been a pleasure to watch them become engrained in the Carson City community this last year, and I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to them on opening location number two.”
Big Chicken joins Firehouse Subs on the north side of the intersection, across Santa Anita Blvd. from McDonalds. The sandwich shop opened in August.
Meanwhile, what is anticipated to be a Chipotle is under construction on the other side of the highway in Minden.
