An 84-year-old Wellington man was one of two people killed in a head-on collision on Highway 50 just west of Echo Summit on Thursday evening.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the collision just east of Audrain Way at 5:15 p.m., according to information released on Friday morning.
The identity of the man was not released pending notifications of next of kin.
The man was driving east in a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse when it and a 2001 Toyota Sequoia collided in the eastbound lanes, according to the preliminary report.
A 50-year-old passenger in the Toyota, driven by 28-year-old Jeffrey Chen, was killed. The identity of the Fremont, Calif., woman was not released.
“As a result of the collision, the driver of the Chevrolet and a passenger from the Toyota sustained major injuries to which they succumbed,” according to the CHP. “The driver of the Toyota sustained major injuries and three other passengers in the Toyota sustained moderate injuries and were transported for medical care.”
