Genoa, Nev. — The Good Governance Group is hosting a debate between Commissioner Danny Tarkanian and challenger Brian Dempsey noon today at the COD Casino in Minden. Bring half a sawbuck for the room and beverages.

Today is the deadline for candidates to respond to the surveys for The R-C’s General Election Guide. It would be helpful if candidates who have decided to opt out of the guide would send a note to editor@recordcourier.com saying that.

The legal conflict between the county and Park Ranch Holdings over Muller Lane Parkway lands at the Gardnerville Town Board today. Developers are seeking a modification of a phasing plan for Ashland Park that would result in access to the neighboring development going through Chichester Estates until the Parkway is built, according to the town.

Town board members will also discuss reopening their parks plan to reduce the intensity of proposed uses at Mountain View Nature Park. The town board meets 4:30 p.m. in their offices at 1407 Main St.

One person was transported for treatment by East Fork ambulance from a collision at Foothill Road and Mottsville Lane around 2:17 p.m. Monday.

An excessive heat warning is in place for the Bay Area with most of the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys under a heat advisory for 97-106 degrees through Wednesday night.

The official high temperature for Sept. 29 was 93 degrees, short of the 96-degree record set in 2010. We came within a degree of the 2006 record 91 degrees for Sept. 30. The record high temperature for Oct. 1 is 94 degrees, also set in 2010.

Sunny skies and a high of 91 degrees are in the forecast for today with the wind out of the west at 5-10 mph in the afternoon. The low tonight is expected to drop to 50 degrees.
