Genoa, Nev. — Resident Mike Nevius was working the Painted Rock Mine opposition petition tent at the Johnson Lane General Store on Tuesday. The county commissioner meeting is Thursday.

Alpine County supervisors didn’t even get to the part where they would rescind a termination notice of an agreement with historical society on Tuesday. They hung up on a procedural item to waive the governance manual.

Power was restored to around 100 NV Energy customers in the Gardnerville Ranchos just before 8 a.m. today. NVEnergy.com reported the outage at around 5:30 a.m. Another 22 remain without power, according to the site. There was no indication of the cause or when power would be restored.

The landscape and streetscape improvements for The Village at Monte Vista are up for discussion at the Minden Town Board, which meets 5:30 p.m. Oct. 2 in the CVIC Hall.

I’ll follow up today on the hangar fire at the airport on Tuesday. By the time I got over there, the fire was down for the count. I expect the sprinklers helped a bunch.

A flickering Halloween decoration prompted a report of a wildfire near Sheridan Acres around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday. The single caller reported seeing flames coming from a house.

Two neighbors along Tillman Lane in the Gardnerville Ranchos are having a competition to see who can have the biggest and most Halloween decorations in their yards. It’s only 29 days to Halloween.

A thermometer near Sunridge Golf Course registered 94 degrees on Tuesday afternoon, for the highest National Weather Service reading in the county. The southern Gardnerville Ranchos had a 91-degree reading to come in second.

Today’s forecast calls for a high of 90 degrees with the wind out of the southeast at 5-10 mph, shifting to the west by lunch time. Gusts of up to 20 mph are expected through the day.
