Genoa, Nev. — A wan cloud of purple smoke wafted into Carson Valley from the southwest on Thursday evening, probably from the Peak Fire burning near Strawberry. Mapping indicates its around 700 acres this morning. Officially, it was at 145 acres at 10 p.m. Thursday.

A pedestrian received a head injury in a collision near Sharkey’s at around 4:10 p.m. The person was transported to Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center by East Fork ambulance.

The annual Main Street Gardnerville Fall Festival is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Park. Visit mainstreetgardnerville.org for more information.  East Fork Gallery picked up some more scarecrow stuffing for their festival on Thursday.

There are a bunch of events happening this weekend. The Markleeville Chili Cook-Off is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Alpine County Library in Markleeville. Carson Valley Pops’ Autumn Concert is 7 p.m. Saturday at the CVIC Hall in Minden.

The Best of Carson Valley magazine will be included with Saturday’s edition. The R-C will be closed around lunchtime today for the Best Of Luncheon. Someone’ll get back to reopen around 1 p.m.

A lake wind advisory for Lake Tahoe goes into effect 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today with 40 mph gusts driving waves of 1-3 feet. Down in the Valley, the forecast calls for 15-20 mph west winds, gusting to 30 mph.
