Genoa, Nev. — We’re looking at a political Wednesday kicking off with Rep. Mark Amodei at the Sierra Nevada Republican Women luncheon noon today at the COD Casino. Doors open at 11 a.m. Bring a sawbuck for beverages and snacks. Folks are welcome to bring a lunch. Drop them a line at charmann@live.com if you plan to attend.

Candidate for Tahoe Township Justice of the Peace Rick Gardner sends his regards but has a prior engagement preventing his participation in tonight’s Town Hall Debate. We’re not expecting either school board trustee Yvonne Wagstaff or trustee-elect Marcus Zinke to participate, though they may attend.

Doors for the event at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center open at 5 p.m. with the trouble starting at 6 p.m. Clerk-Treasurer Amy Burgans and former Sen. James Settelmeyer will kick it off, literally, with questions. The web stream won’t go live until 6.

A gas leak at Walleys Hot Springs resulted in the evacuation of the Aurora Building around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. About 15 minutes later, there was a report of a dog being hit by a car at 395 and Grant Avenue. There was a response but by the time emergency services got there, the dog was gone, likely taken for treatment.

The Carson Valley Community Food Closet is hosting its last Outdoor Market of the season 2-4 p.m. today for Douglas and Alpine County residents. The closet is located at 1251 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville. Email info@thefoodcloset.org for more information.

We might see a little wind today with the zephyr at 5-15 mph out of the west this afternoon. The forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 85 degrees, with wind gusts up to 20 mph tonight as some cooler weather sneaks into the Valley for the weekend.
