Genoa, Nev. — Today is the deadline for clerks across the state to mail out ballots. Douglas is running early, having sent theirs out on Oct. 12. I received my mailed ballot on Saturday. If you haven’t seen your ballot yet and didn’t opt out, email elections@douglasnv.us to check.

On Tuesday, Clerk-Treasurer Amy Burgans filed an emergency appeal to the Nevada Supreme Court in the matter of Jason Gibson’s candidacy for county commission after he changed parties to Natural Law back in July. He filed as a Democrat, but according to court documents he changed affiliations to the Natural Law Party in July.

The Adults Crafters’ Club is working with ceramic owls and turkeys 4-6 p.m. today at the Minden Branch of the Douglas County Public Library, 1625 Library Lane. Adults only.  Information, library.douglascountynv.gov or 775-782-9841.

I don’t know if anyone’s noticed, but Halloween is right around the corner. The Carson Valley Swim Center is hosting two Halloween events on Saturday, including a floating pumpkin patch 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until the pumpkins run out. Haunted Pool Night is 6-8 p.m. Saturday. On Tuesday, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office announced it’s doing a Trunk or Treat 3-8 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in the Judicial & Law Enforcement Center on Buckeye Road in Minden.

Western Nevada is the freeze watch meat in a big red flag warning sandwich, according to the National Weather Service. The warnings for gusty winds and low humidity are in effect for both California and Central Nevada.

The chances we’ll see a little rain pick up toward lunchtime today when it’s supposed to cloud up. Radar shows most of the storm still on the other side of the Sierra. The high temperature today is predicted to hit 67 degrees with the low tonight dropping to 33.
