Genoa, Nev. — A ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the Herbig Park Pickleball complex is 9 a.m. today at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.

Valley Knolls is seeking a two-year extension for a tentative subdivision map for its 174-unit project south of Topsy Lane in northern Douglas County. It’s one of three north county items on commissioners’ agenda 10 a.m. today at the historic Douglas County Courthouse.

Commissioners are also agendized to discuss providing $450,000 to the micro-transit system. The money comes from the 1 percent lodging tax and must be spent on transportation and Lake Tahoe.

Firefighters responded to an address on Wisteria Drive in Minden for what turned out to be an oven fire. With temperatures dropping down to 20 over the next few days, I anticipate some calls related to wood stoves, fireplaces and newly restarted heating systems.

It appears from nvroads.com traffic cameras that there’s a little fog out this morning. A weather service advisory is in effect until 8 a.m. today, so use caution on today’s commute.

The freeze watch for 2-9 a.m. Friday has been upgraded to a warning and the forecast low dropped a degree to 20 and 22 degrees on Saturday. If you haven’t unhooked the hoses, today’s the day.

The first wetting rain of the 2024-25 water year fell on Wednesday with a gauge in southern Carson Valley recording .36 inches and Genoa getting around .3 inches.

There’s a chance of a little rain after 2 p.m. today, but with tonight’s freezing temperatures that could cause an issue on the roads. The forecast calls for a high temperature of 62 degrees with the west wind 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph. Snow level is expected to drop to 4,700 feet after midnight, but without some moisture, it’s unlikely any will turn up in the Valley.
