Genoa, Nev. — While people have been sending in their mailed ballots for a week, early in-person voting begins 10 am. Saturday at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center in Gardnerville. Voting wraps up at 2 p.m. Saturday and then reopens on Monday.

Genoan and East Fork Swimming Pool District candidate Alan Ferguson said he’s not interested in serving on the board. He thought he’d successfully withdrawn last spring and said he was surprised when he saw his name was still on the ballot.

There’s too much going on Saturday to list here, but most of it is in The R-C’s calendar, on stands now for $1. The Carson Valley Swim Center events are the only addition to Saturday’s calendar.

Why is it so busy this weekend? Well, next weekend we celebrate Nevada Day. Douglas has had a significant presence in that parade since the first one on Oct. 31, 1938.

School’s out next week for Douglas County’s fall break. That means the kids get a break from class and we get a break from dodging buses. Oct. 25 is the holiday, so state and local offices will be closed.

As of 6 a.m., Minden-Tahoe Airport looks like it hit the forecast low of 21 degrees. Most of the rest of the Valley dropped into the upper 20s, with a few spots right at freezing.

It’s supposed to get a little colder before it begins to warm up, according to the National Weather Service, though your temperatures may vary wildly. The freeze warning wraps up at 9 a.m.

Might be a good idea to wear a jacket today, because the high is forecast to hit around 54 degrees under sunny skies with the north wind picking up this afternoon.
