Genoa, Nev. — A total of 679 voters cast a ballot in person using a machine on Saturday, which was 25 short of doubling the 352 who voted in person on Oct. 22, 2022, the first day of voting. Around 1,000 voters dropped off the ballots they received in the mail, according to Clerk-Treasurer Amy Burgans.

Early in-person voters lined up across the front of the Community & Senior Center on Saturday for the 10 a.m. opening and there continued to be a line out the door at 1 p.m.

In-person polling reopens at the Community Center 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, including Nevada Day, over the next two weeks. The polls will also be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. A roving ballot box will be at the Johnson Lane Fire Station 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and 3-6 p.m. and Kahle Community Center.

A girl was transported for treatment around 9:50 a.m. Sunday after the golf cart she was in collided head-on with a vehicle at Clear Creek. It was the third golf cart-related collision in the last month, including one at Riverview and Carson Valley Golf Course and another near the Sunridge Golf Course earlier this month.

School’s out for fall break in Douglas County this week, so keep an eye out for children around recreational areas.

Genoa was packed on Saturday, and not just for the Oktoberfest, though I’m told turnout was pretty good there, too. It was just a nice day after a blast of cold late last week.

The forecast calls for partly sunny skies this morning clearing as the high approaches 72 degrees. The wind’s predicted to be 5-15 mph shifting west and gusting up to 25 mph.
