A man who bit off another’s ear faces up to five years in prison.

Christopher Rios, 30, admitted to battery resulting in substantial bodily harm Monday.

Rios was arrested Dec. 17, 2023, near Leviathan Mine Road after he pushed the victim causing him to fall. After the man fell Rios jumped on him, punched him repeatedly then bit off part of his right ear.

Sentencing is set for Dec. 2.

• A man who sold marijuana to minors was sentenced to 2-5 years in prison Monday.

Christopher Andrew Ferguson, 44, was arrested in January for selling marijuana to a 15-year-old and 16-year-old.

He was released on his own recognizance on Feb. 28 and was scheduled to appear in court in May. After failing to appear on four occasions, a warrant was issued for his arrest on May 6.

District Judge Thomas Gregory said although Ferguson was eligible for diversion, he didn’t think Ferguson was a good candidate for it.

“I’m pointing to his criminal history and failures to appear,” said Gregory.

Ferguson was given credit for 79 days.

• A habitual felon faces 38 years in prison on five counts of impersonating another, possession of a stolen vehicle and credit cards, and forgery.

Thomas Christopher Hayes, 34, was arrested July 8.

According to court documents, he is a habitual criminal having committed crimes in California, Arizona and Nevada. He was arrested in possession of a stolen vehicle, three credit cards without the card holder’s permission, and forgery of a check in the amount of $1,000.

When he was booked, he gave the false identity Johnathan Doyle.

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 2.

• A woman, who punched a fellow inmate while serving time on another charge is serving another six months in jail as a condition of probation.

Nina Marie-Ellen Donley, 25, was arrested in Jan for battery of an officer. While serving time on that offense, she punched an inmate in the face, grabbed her wrist and pushed her backwards.

On Monday, she was sentenced to a suspended 1-3 years in prison. As a condition of probation, she was taken back into custody to serve six months in Douglas County Jail. She was given credit for 30 days.

• A $5,000 warrant was issued Monday for Michael Buck.

According to court documents, Buck violated conditions of his probation and failed to appear for a review hearing.
