Bishop Manogue showed why its continually the top football program in the region Thursday night, putting up 35 points in the second half en route to a 48-24 win over Douglas.

The result didn’t hold any weight toward postseason as both teams were already locked into their respective No. 1 and No. 4 seeds.

Douglas – as the No. 4 seed – will get a home game to open the Class 5A North Div. II postseason next Friday (Nov. 1).

However, the Tigers’ opponent is still to be determined as Douglas will face the winner of Reno-McQueen, which is being played tomorrow (Friday) night.

In the opening half, Douglas’ offense stalled out on its first two drives before the Miners’ broke open the scoreless contest.

Bishop Manogue’s 7-0 lead lasted only seconds as the ensuing kickoff was returned to the house by Douglas’ Zack Jackson.

The junior started his return to his left but cut back to his right before sprinting the rest of the 99 yards down the home sideline.

Jackson broke off another long touchdown, sprinting 45 yards for six on a running play in the fourth quarter.

The Miners’ tacked on two field goals before half time, making it 13-7, but Douglas was also able to block a kick courtesy of senior captain Brenton Weston.

Weston went on to hit a 54-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, which is the longest field goal in school history.

The Miners turned a six-point halftime lead into a 27-7 advantage by the end of the third quarter.

Douglas junior running back Ryan Slagle also had a rushing touchdown in the loss.
