Genoa, Nev. — Around 15,000 Douglas County residents have cast their ballots so far in the election, according to Clerk-Treasurer Amy Burgans. That’s more than a third of the 41,611 active registered voters in the county.

So far, 3,099 voters have cast a ballot at the polls at the Community & Senior Center. They’ll be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and, despite the holiday, on Friday. Burgans said her office has processed 9,264 mailed ballots and has 3,000 more to process today.

The staff’s revocation of a Stateline vacation home rental permit was narrowly upheld 2-1 by the Vacation Home Rental Advisory Board on Wednesday. The rental was dinged twice for parking and noise on the same night. The owners will likely appeal to county commissioners.

The Alpine County Museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Sunday and Halloween for its last five days of the season. The litigation between the county and the Alpine County Historical Society will continue, however.

As of Tuesday, there hadn’t been any independent confirmation of the sighting of four wolves in Hope Valley earlier this month. The California Department of Fish & Game has installed howling detectors and is looking for wolf scat and hair.

It’s Halloween Toddler Time 9-11 a.m. today at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center for trick or treaters 9 months to 5 years old. Trick or treating kicks off at 10:30 a.m. It costs $3 per child.

If you’ve got business with state or local governments, best get it done today. Friday is the observed Nevada Day holiday, which is about as far on the calendar as you can get from actual Nevada Day on Oct. 31.

The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 64 degrees today, warming up on Friday and Saturday as some more weather rolls in on Sunday.
